In the 1970s, John Denver recorded “Rocky Mountain Christmas” which celebrated the beauty of the season in Colorado and other Rocky Mountain States. He later recorded “Christmas Like A Lullaby” which is another institution in this beautiful state.
In the 21st Century, Katey Laurel [who is a multitalented singer, model and actress] recorded “This Is Christmas” to celebrate the season in her native Colorado and the results are impressive and down to earth. The album cover shows Katey Laurel appreciating the forest and the Church along with the mountains of Colorado and the two CDs are beautifully wrapped within them as treasures.
The modern carols such as “Silver Bells” and “Have Yourself a Merry Christmas” evoke a ride through the countryside in a sleigh [if a person is living in the snow covered areas of America] or a ride down a country road in Florida. At the same time, listening to these carols interpreted without the excess sounds reminds the person of visiting a friend and relative at a country house [with the essence of wintergreen perfuming the background] to exchange words of encouragement with some hot cocoa, espresso coffee, or even a major breakfast of scrambled eggs, corned beef hash, and sausages.
“The First Noel” and “Silent Night” are the traditional carols that evoke the true meaning of the season which is the birth of Jesus Christ to save us from our sins and to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding in a world that needs it. The original interpretation by such a gifted artist touched the heart of the underwriter since Ms. Laurel sung such classics with her heart and soul.
I highly recommend “This Is Christmas” by Katey Laurel and it is available at all digital platforms as well as her personal webpage. It is an album classic for the 21st Century.
