Super Bowl LV was painful. Oh, not the game—that was fine. It was everything else. The halftime and the commercials. So, what was the goal: to get us to choke on “woke?”
The halftime artist known as ‘The Weekend’ was touted as a shining example for black people. The song he didn’t do is one he recorded that talked about how proud he was of his girlfriend’s willingness to degrade herself with him in front of his friends and let them film it.
Dr. King said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” The Super Bowl halftime show was not that ‘day.’ Instead, it featured a man whose lack of character was not just ignored, but celebrated.
