Manchester United started the year 2009 in style when they signed Zoran Tosic to Old Trafford. Since then, English Football [Soccer] was never the same. Zoran Tosic has been the idol of many Manchester United Supporters when he participated in the team’s League Cup semifinal against Derby County.
He was also a last minute substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo during the FA Cup Fourth Round Match between United and the Spurs [Tottenham Hotspurs] and Dimitar Berbatov in the game against West Bromwich Albion. While this is the beginning of a promising career with the Premiership League, his beginnings were in Serbia.
Zoran Tosic was born on the 28th of April 1987 in Zrenjanin, Serbia. At that time, Serbia belonged to the now defunct nation called Yugoslavia. While Yugoslavia was shifting and dissolving into different states, he was concentrating in the finer things in life which is playing football or soccer.
He started in various Serbian Teams such as Proleter Zrenjanin, Banat Zrenjanin, and FK Partizan where he scored sixteen goals in 81 appearances. He also participated in the Serbian National Under 21 Football Team as well as the Serbian UEFA European Under 21 Football Championship Game. Zoran Tosic also participated in the Euro 2008 Qualifier for Serbia against Finland and Portugal.
While Serbia did not win the Euro 2008 Cup, many clubs in Europe and beyond were looking at the videos and films of Zoran Tosic and decided that they wanted to sign him. The various clubs also saw that Zoran Tosic also won the Serbian Superliga and Serbian Cup for the year 2007 to 2008. The fact that he won the Superliga and Cup of Serbia gave more power to the desire to sign him to one of the great teams.
It was then that Manchester United stepped into the fight for signing Zoran Tosic. Manchester United signed him as a left fielder and Adem Ljajic as a midfielder for the sum of 16.3 million British Pound Sterling. After the Physical Examinations, the battle to gain a work permit and all of the other requirements to play in Great Britain; Manchester United and Zoran Tosic were ready for the Premier League and the world.
I can only imagine that this must have been a dream come true for Zoran Tosic who admitted to being a Manchester United fan since he was a child. According to the Manchester United Website, he used to hang posters of Manchester United Players in his room. For this writer, it is an honour and a pleasure to have Zoran Tosic play for Manchester United.
