Chivas USA Notes (1-2 vs. Toronto FC, BMO Field, Toronto, Canada 8/7/2010)
· Chivas USA fell 2-1 on Saturday afternoon against Toronto FC at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada. With the result, the Red-and-White (5-10-3) remains with 18 points in the Western Conference, while Toronto FC (7-6-5) reached 26 points in the Eastern Conference.
· Forward Giancarlo Maldonado scored his first goal in the league at the 65th minute on a penalty kick taken after a Toronto handball inside the box. Maldonado had scored once before for the Red-and-White in SuperLiga 2010 against Pachuca.
· Toronto, undefeated at home this season with a record of 6-0-4, broke Chivas USA’s four-game unbeaten streak in MLS. Chivas USA had only lost once in the last nine matches in all competitions (MLS, SuperLiga and US Open Cup).
· Toronto had a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals by Nana Attakora and Chad Barrett. Attakora gave Toronto FC the lead with an impressive header from a Dan Gargan long throw in at the 20th minute and then Barrett added the second goal of the match at the 31st minute. Barrett volleyed from inside the penalty area after a pass into the box by Jacob Peterson was deflected to him by Maicon Santos.
· Chivas USA defender and captain Jonathan Bornstein returned to action after suffering a knee injury, as well as Mariano Trujillo who served a one game yellow card accumulation suspension.
· The Red-and-White will travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday and will resume training on Tuesday. Chivas USA will return to The Home Depot Center on Saturday, August 14, for a 8:00 p.m. PT matchup against Seattle Sounders FC.
